Why control is so important...

Fatty foods may cause cocaine-like addiction

Scientists have finally confirmed what the rest of us have suspected for years: Bacon, cheesecake, and other delicious yet fattening foods may be addictive.

A new study in rats suggests that high-fat, high-calorie foods affect the brain in much the same way as cocaine and heroin. When rats consume these foods in great enough quantities, it leads to compulsive eating habits that resemble drug addiction, the study found.

  1. Yeah...this is something I'm pretty sure most of us have known for quite some time. To what else may we compare such an overwhelming compulsion to consume that which we know will only destroy us in the end? Just like booze for the alcoholic, crack for the addict... Nothing else matters. Not in that moment. It's an addiction, pure and simple. Makes perfect sense. Thus, our oft used closing: "Stay Strong"... Only the truly strong can overcome such temptation as the ones we face daily...ah, addiction. Fun times.

    Not really, though.

    Hope you're well! <3

  2. How do we know that it's not just addicting for rats, and not for humans? Oh well. I'm sure the scientists/doctors know what they're talking about.

Off topic... but do you ever feel sorry for girls that have to model in front of food or like with food? Especially that girl that's portraying a fatty food addiction. That would be horrifying for me!

  3. the end of overeating (kessler) is a great book for a more in depth look at how the food industry uses this knowledge to market to our natural instincts because in nature these combinations of fat, sugar and salt don't exist in abundance and we needed the motivation to work harder and seek them out - but everything is so readily available, we haven't adapted to the change & just like everything else in life, some of us are more susceptible to the addiction.
